The reality of volunteering
Every year, thousands of volunteers arrive in Tanzania willing to help and make a difference. The reality, however, is that connecting with a new culture and finding your place as a volunteer is an ongoing process. It requires an active mindset, guidance, and reflection while you are experiencing it.
Without this awareness, local organizations repeatedly tell us that well-meaning volunteers still make the same common mistakes: overlooking local context, undervaluing local expertise, or holding onto expectations that don't match reality.

That is why The Oazi Project exists. Through our volunteer training led by Tanzanian women, we support international volunteers and interns in building the awareness, skills, and mindset needed to create genuine partnerships based on mutual respect.
